As an employer, you have a legal obligation to provide employment terms to your employees by day one of employment. This would be what is known to most as your contract of employment.

I come across many employers who don't realise they have an obligation to do this. Not only does providing this document allow you to meet your legal obligations, it also reassures your new employee that they are joining a reputable business.

Let's first dispel a common myth when it comes to employment contracts – there is no such thing as a "Standard employment contract".

Every business operates differently so what is contained in the terms of employment will differ too.

Also, there are several ways that someone might carry out work for your business, the main ones being:

  • on a permanent basis (either full or part time).
  • on a fixed term basis.
  • on an apprenticeship.
  • as a casual worker.

The terms of employment you issue MUST accurately reflect how they will work with your business.

For these reasons, all contracts I write are both tailored to your business AND to the way that someone will work for you giving peace of mind that when you issue a document to a new starter it is absolutely right.

I offer three levels of service when it comes to employment contracts and company handbooks:

Employment Contract

A contract of employment document bespoke to your business that reflects how your employee works with you. This is the minimum standard.

Employment Contract and Handbook

This package includes your contract of employment document and a HR handbook which includes all your people policies and procedures. The handbook allows you to communicate what your policies and procedures are, then it is down to leaders in the business to apply them consistently.

Contract, handbook and HR support

This package includes your employment contract and HR handbook, the creation of personalised contracts for your employees and 12 months of unlimited access to me with an unlimited HR support plan.
